Psithurism Lettering

from $29.00

[ sith-yuh-riz-uhm ] An adaptation of the Ancient Greek ψιθύρισμα (psithúrisma) or ψιθυρισμός (psithurismós), from ψιθυρίζω (psithurízō, “I whisper”)

This piece is inspired by the word "psithurism," which refers to the rustling sound of leaves blowing in the wind. It's a word that perfectly captures the feeling of being outside on a breezy day, surrounded by the gentle whispers of nature.

This piece is also influenced by my personal experience in my sunny Florida backyard. It’s companion piece showcases the picturesque scene visible from my window, including two stately great egrets and an array of vivid floral imagery that I conjured up in my mind. I love playing with sunlight in my work. In particular, the way the sunlight highlights colorful specks of pollen in the air is magical, and I've sought to capture this ethereal quality in my piece.
